Studio Policies and Procedures
Code of Conduct
Welcome to Pirouette Dance Academy, INC. We are pleased to have you as a new member of our dance family. Here at Pirouette we always strive to maintain a professional environment for everyone. Please use this packet as a guide to understand how our studio operates. It will be your responsibility to keep up with our current events through all newsletters, emails, and social media posts. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions at any time. Please note, while in class and in the waiting room, if students or parents are being disruptive or disrespectful in any way, they will be required to leave. Please know that we are offering high quality training at our studio and have handpicked excellent teachers, therefore, we expect a lot from our students as well. Those who come ready to work hard and do their best will find great rewards and will have a lot of fun. Slander of any kind towards Pirouette Dance Academy, INC or any of its affiliates will not be tolerated. We hope this will be a positive year for you and your dancer!
Tuition
Tuition is not refundable for any reason. Tuition is due the first class of the month and is considered late after the second Saturday of the month. Tuition WILL incur a $15 late fee after this time. Please note if there is no class, for any reason, you are still responsible for payment to avoid a late fee. We accept Cash, Check, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard. Tuition stays the same no matter how many weeks are in the month. JUNE TUITION MUST BE PAID (NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR JUNE TUITION) BEFORE RECITAL TICKETS MAY BE PURCHASED.
After one month of unpaid tuition if you have not tried to contact us or your child has not been present in class you will be terminated as a customer of Pirouette Dance Academy. If your child is still participating in class once tuition becomes unpaid for one month your child must sit out of class until the account is made current.
Once you bounce a check for the season unfortunately, we can no longer accept a check as a form of payment from you.
Class Cancellation
When you register for a class, you are committed for the entire season which is September through June. Should you choose to cancel your enrollment in a class, you must do so by informing the office staff by the 25th of the month prior to when you would like to withdraw from that class. The class schedule change will then take effect for the following month. You MAY NOT drop classes to take effect in the current month you are in. If you do not withdraw by the 25th of the month prior, you will still be billed for that class whether your student attends class or not.
Classes will be held virtually for inclement weather or if the class is cancelled for any other reason unless it is a studio related activity. Students are responsible for notifying the instructor if they are going to miss a class. They are also responsible for making up all missed material and choreography.
In the case of poor weather, please call the studio, check your email, and check Facebook etc. an hour before your scheduled class time to see if there is class. In the event of a school cancellation, dance may not necessarily be cancelled.
Class Placement
Here, class placement is based on age, prior dance experience, and/or level of ability. Please keep in mind the first month of classes is a trial period for the student. If you have concerns about your child’s placement, please address it as soon as possible. The instructor holds permission to change the class placement of a student if necessary. The instructor and/or Director are the only ones who make the decision as to what level of classes students will be placed in. MOST STUDENTS SPEND MULTIPLE YEARS IN THE SAME LEVEL BEFORE THEY MOVE UP.
Attendance
We have a very strict attendance policy at Pirouette Dance Academy, INC. Students are expected to be in class regularly if they want to participate fully in recital numbers. If students are absent regularly, the teacher reserves the right to cut them from sections of the dance or not allow participation in the recital. Please understand that when your student is absent, it makes it difficult to clean (perfect) dances and the teacher has to spend valuable time catching them up when they come back. However, students who have to miss class may pre-arrange for a make-up class (additional fees will apply).
NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Once your child has missed 4 classes within a 10 class period you will automatically be billed $25 for a private lesson and it will be your responsibility to schedule said lesson. The $25 fee will carry the same rules for payment terms as tuition. *PLEASE NOTE: Competitive classes are subject to their own attendance policy listed in the Competition Team Contract.
Class Attire
All dancers are expected to come to dance class in the proper attire. Girls in black leotards and tan/pink/black tights with hair and bangs neatly pulled back. Black or teal cover ups are permitted during warm up only. Ballet skirts are required during ballet class. Teal or black studio t-shirts and cover-ups are also allowed in Hip Hop & Tap classes only. Hip hop classes will be allowed to wear black pants over leotard if desired. Boys need to wear black pants/shorts and plain black/white T-shirt/Tank. For shoes, please see shoe list. There is a specific style of shoe required for each class. ANY STUDENT WHO HABITUALLY VIOLATES DRESS CODE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS.
Costumes
Costumes will be chosen by the instructor and put on display for all to see. When choosing the costumes, we keep in mind the age of the student, theme of the recital, and song they will be dancing to. Costume money is due BY DECEMBER. If money is not received your child’s costume will not be ordered. Checks will not be accepted as of December 1st. You will also be required to purchase specific tights and possibly shoes for each costume for recital. This is NOT included in the Costume fees. Tights will serve as their underwear therefore none is to be worn under costume. Boys will not be required to wear tights. Prices of costumes will be $70 and up. CHECKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A FORM OF PAYMENT FOR COSTUMES AS OF DECEMBER 1ST. Please also be aware ALL STUDENTS will be asked to remove earrings for the recital for everyone’s safety. You will have the option to pick your child’s costume size based on their measurements or have the director choose it. There is a $10 exchange fee for any costume that you do not feel fits properly and wish to return regardless of who chose the size.
Waiting Room
Please note the waiting room does get crowded at times, especially during a class change. Students should not leave their belongings in the waiting room. Cubbies are available in the studios. They can also change their shoes in the studio room instead of the waiting room. Please do not leave personal belongings on benches where people may be able to sit. Please be considerate of everyone in the waiting room.

Please understand that all of our students work together as a team to put on an amazing performance at the end of the year for all of us to enjoy so your commitment and dedication are of utmost importance. If students are absent on a regular basis it hinders the whole class and choreography. Some routines also require partners or assistants for stunts so if everyone is not present it would negatively impact others. Please be aware of our new attendance policy stated above. If you are absent for a one-month time period you will be terminated as a customer of Pirouette Dance Academy and will not be allowed to perform in Recital. Performing in Recital is a privilege and the staff of Pirouette Dance Academy has the right to revoke this privilege from any student at any time. We strive to push our students to their personal best and enjoy every moment of it. Knowing all this please take special consideration when signing your child up for the Recital.
