Introduction

This packet is designed to answer ALL your Recital questions. If it doesn’t then let us know so we can add more next year. Recital is our “Grand Finale” for the countless hours in the studio and your countless dollars put towards your child’s dance education. It is a time to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching your child perform on the stage. This is a big deal for all of our dancers, especially our first-time dancers. This packet has a lot of rules and regulations for the Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsal, and Recital. Some of these rules may seem harsh but they have come from over many years of Recitals and performances. It is very important that we all work together to make this work and remember it’s for the kids!

Recital

What: Presentation of all skills and choreography learned throughout year.

When: Saturday, June 30^th, 2018

Time: 12:00PM and 5:00PM

Same show is being performed twice and you are REQUIRED to participate in both shows.

Approximate show time is 2 hours.

Awards will be presented after second show only.

Rehearsal

What: Rehearsal of full show in dance class attire. The is a practice for the Recital. Students not participating in Recital are welcome to participate in Rehearsal.

Dress Rehearsal

What: Full run of Recital in full costume and hair done. This is to assure no wardrobe malfunctions and allow students to practice in costumes. Recital dancers ONLY.

Rehearsal

Those students who are not performing in Recital may come to this tech rehearsal but must adhere to the following rules.
Rehearsal will follow order of actual Recital (We will most likely do Finale first so little ones don’t have to stay too late)
Students are to come in regular class dress code. NO T-SHIRTS OR PANTS. If you are not in dress code, you will not be able to perform.
Please arrive 30 minutes early
Please bring all shoes needed
Hair must be tied up neatly and tightly!
ONLY STUDENT AND ONE PARENT/ADULT ARE TO COME. ONE ADULT PER STUDENT. NO OTHER FRIENDS OR FAMILY. This is a strict rehearsal and limited interruption is needed.
You will need a parent pass to enter (this will be further explained)
NO SIBLINGS ALLOWED. PLEASE FIND A SITTER OR WAIT IN FOYER WITH THEM
If you are not performing in Recital and your child is participating in Rehearsal, please see Miss Kiirsten directly for more info.

Dress Rehearsal

FULL RUN OF THE SHOW for Recital dancers ONLY
Must have full stage hair done (see below)
Must have all pieces of costumes (props/hair pieces/shoes)
Please arrive by 4:30PM and be ready in full costume and hair NO LATER THAN 5:00PM. WE WILL START PROMPTLY AT 5:00PM!
ONLY STUDENT AND PARENT/ADULT ARE TO COME. ONE ADULT PER STUDENT. NO OTHER FRIENDS OR FAMILY. This is a strict rehearsal and limited interruption is needed.

General Rules

General Rules

Please do your best to follow all the rules, they are set forth for a reason. If we all work together we can make it a great experience for everyone!
No food or drinks allowed in the auditorium. Dancers/audience may bring in water.
Costumes worn out of the dressing area MUST BE COVERED!!! You can wear your Recital t-shirt over costume. The show is a surprise to our audience and we want to keep it that way by covering our costumes.
Enter and exit auditorium during dance change only. Doors WILL NOT be opened during a dance!! The door will be monitored, and this rule will be enforced.
If someone is holding the door shut during a performance do not bang on it and try to push it open
Please be respectful of the staff member at the door. PROFANITIES OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND MAY RESULT IN BEING REMOVED FROM THE VENUE.
NO NAIL/TOE POLISH!
No earrings, body jewelry, rings, bracelets or jewelry of any kind!!
No sitting on the floor or the aisle during Recital. Everyone must purchase a ticket.
No walking in front of the stage or in front of the teacher’s table near front row. We have wires running to stage and don’t want anyone to fall.
Please be courteous to others and do not bring big balloons, stuffed animals, etc. into the Recital as they will block others view.
Parents of little ones- Your children will be lined up in the hallway in front of the door to backstage. You may stay with them until they go backstage. NO PARENTS ARE ALLOWED BACKSTAGE. After their dance please come retrieve them from that same hallway.
You will be required to get your child to the hallway 3 numbers before their routine. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS READY TO PERFORM, WE DO NOT HOLD THE SHOW IF NOT EVERYONE IS THERE.
If your child does not make it on the stage in time they will not be allowed to run on in the middle of the dance

Photography/Videotaping

NO VIDEOTAPING/PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED DURING THE RECITAL!!!!
You may videotape/take pictures at the rehearsal and dress rehearsal only.
Flash photography and a sea of little red lights are very distracting to the dancers and therefore

are not allowed. Anyone seen videotaping/photographing during Recital will be asked to leave.

Pictures may be taken in the foyer area or after the show.
Recital DVD’s will be available for purchase.

Arrival/Departure

Students are expected to arrive one hour prior to each show start time to get in full make-up and hair.
COSTUMES DO NOT NEED TO BE WORN TO THE SCHOOL. It is your choice whether or not to have your child arrive in costume but keep in mind what could happen to it on the way to the school (i.e. wrinkling). They also must be covered with something (i.e. Recital t-shirt) so the audience cannot see the costume.
If a student is not there in time the show will start as expected. We will not hold a dance if you are late.
For the little ones, once your dance is completed you may leave if you are not in the finale. Please note if you leave you must come back and perform in the second show.

Girl’s Hair

Hair must be neatly tied back in a low bun (hairnet must be worn around bun)
No bangs/No part
No glitter, colored sprays or anything else that alters the appearance. We have a lot of people with allergies so please respect these rules.

Girl’s Make-up

Color scheme is to be earth tones (browns).
Lipstick color- “Cherries in the Snow” by Revlon #440
Make-up needs to be heavier than usual to show up on stage

Costumes

No costumes are to be worn out of dressing room without covering (ie. Recital t-shirt)
Please make sure costumes are steamed and in good condition, we are putting on a professional show and want to have a professional appearance.
Costumes have been steamed prior to you receiving so please leave hung up in bag.

Costumes are to be worn as decided on per costume book. Costume book will be available
No changes without consulting instructor
No underwear/bra under costumes. Wearing these undergarments causes “underwear lines” and looks extremely unprofessional if underwear is visible from stage. UNDERTARDS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE!!
TIGHTS ARE YOUR UNDERWEAR FOR COSTUMES.
TIGHTS MUST BE THE SAME BRAND/COLOR THAT IS REQUIRED, which may be purchased at the studio.

Dressing Rooms

Parent Section/Parent Passes

Dressing Areas

NO MEN WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOM HALLWAY AT ANY TIME, SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

There are multiple dressing rooms available
Dressing rooms will be assigned by class.
Doors will be labeled.
If you are in more than one room based on your classes, you may pick the one you want.
DRESSING AREAS ARE FOR STUDENTS AND WHOEVER IS HELPING THEM CHANGE. NO FRIENDS OR FAMILY
Please no food or drinks around the costumes in the dressing area
There will be one dressing room for BOYS ONLY.
NO BOYS ALLOWED IN GIRLS CHANGING AREAS AND NO GIRLS ALLOWED IN BOYS CHANGING AREA (except moms)
We will have a “quick change” room for students who do not have time to run back to dressing room and change. A “quick change” is 3 numbers or less. This is not a room to stay in the entire time, just for your quick changes please.

Parent Section

The “Parent Section” is a designated area in the Auditorium where a parent who is changing a child may sit and watch only their child’s dance, for free.
These are designated seats for a parent who wishes to watch their child perform on stage but do not want to purchase a ticket to watch the whole show. They are strategically picked to cause limited disruption as you enter and exit the auditorium to attend to your dancer.
YOU MAY NOT SIT HERE FOR THE WHOLE SHOW, ONLY YOUR CHILD’S DANCE.
You must be wearing your “Parent Pass” to sit in this section (explained below)
This is not a seat for a parent to sit in for the whole show nor is it a guaranteed seat.
There are not as many seats as there are parents because logically all parents wouldn’t be sitting at one time.
DO NOT SIT IN THIS SEAT THE ENTIRE SHOW OR LET OTHERS SIT THERE INCLUDING STUDENTS.
Please do not sit on the aisle and have people walk over you. Move into the closest seat to the end of the Parent section.
No sitting on anything but a seat (no stairs, walls, etc.)
You will use the designated side entrance to get to these seats

If you would like to sit in the regular audience section and have a guaranteed seat then you are subject to the original $14/$16 ticket price.
There will also be a live feed into the dressing area so no tickets are needed if you wish to view from there
Please note this is a courtesy given to one parent and if the rules are not followed it will no longer be provided.

Parent Passes

The Parent Pass is a ticket for the adult going with the dancer into Rehearsal and Dress Rehearsal
NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED INTO REHEARSAL/DRESS REHEARSAL WITHOUT A PARENT PASS.
Only one parent pass is issued per child. They will be issued at the Rehearsal so please arrive a little early.

Recital Ticket sales are from 8:00AM-Noon. Do not come after noon, we will not be here.
CASH/CREDIT CARD ONLY SALE (no checks will be accepted)
Once you arrive on ticket day you may stand in line to reserve your spot to get a number.
Tickets are purchased per show. One ticket WILL NOT admit you to both shows.
When we get there around 7:45 we will begin to hand out numbers, that will determine what order you will come into the office to purchase tickets.
Once 8:00AM rolls around, numbers will be called in order and you will be able to come in and purchase tickets.
ONE NUMBER PER PERSON. IF YOU TRY TO COME IN THE OFFICE WITH ANOTHER MOTHER AND ONLY ONE NUMBER, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PURCHASE TICKETS. THIS IS A VERY ORGANIZED SYSTEM THAT PROMOTES FAIRNESS AMONGST EVERYONE. NO ONE IS SUBJECT TO NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.
YOU MAY ALSO NOT TAKE MORE THAN ONE NUMBER. IF THIS OCCURS YOU WILL BE SENT TO THE BACK OF THE LINE. EVERYONE WANTS TO SEE THEIR CHILDREN PERFORM SO LET’S ALL WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE IT GOES AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE. IF YOUR NUMBER IS CALLED AND YOU ARE NOT THERE YOU WAIT UNTIL WE CAN TAKE YOU IN.
Please do not call the studio to see what number we are on. It distracts the staff and slows the whole process down.
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BUY TICKETS UNLESS ALL ACCOUNTS ARE MADE CURRENT, THIS INCLUDES JUNE TUITION. There are 2 Recitals on Recital day that your child is expected to participate in: 12:00 & 5:00.
Tickets will be sold at a price of $14 ON TICKET DAY ONLY.
AFTER TICKET DAY, TICKET PRICE INCREASES TO $16 PER TICKET
Any child 2 and under that will be sitting on a parent’s lap does not need to purchase a ticket. IF YOUR CHILD IS 3 AND OVER, THEY WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THEIR OWN SEAT AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SIT ON YOUR LAP. Children under 2 will require a stamp on their accompanying adult’s ticket.
Tickets are sold as assigned seating.
There are NO LIMITATIONS as to how many tickets you can buy.
Once everyone buys tickets, the next day, Monday, all remaining tickets will be released on a first come first serve basis at 4:00PM in the event people need more tickets for the Recitals.
If your child is not participating in Recital you are eligible for two half price tickets for you and your child to watch Recital. These may be purchased after ticket sales day.
If you do not come on ticket day and do not send anyone YOU MAY NOT RECEIVE TICKETS AND WILL MISS THE CHANCE TO SEE YOUR CHILD PERFORM IN RECITAL.
DO NOT WAIT FOR MONDAY TO PURCHASE TICKETS BECAUSE THEY MAY SELL OUT ON TICKET DAY.
You may opt to not stand in line and come later, say at 11:30AM. This is fine but there may not be the seating you desire or the show time you desire. This is your decision to make.
TICKET SALES ARE OVER AT 12PM (OR WHEN THE LINE ENDS). DO NOT COME AFTER 12PM BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO ONE HERE AND YOU WILL NOT GET TICKETS..
DANCERS WHO WISH TO WATCH THE RECITAL (SIT IN THE AUDIENCE) MUST PURCHASE A TICKET. They are not allowed to sit on your lap unless they are 2 years old or younger.

There is no need to purchase a ticket for your child or you if your child has a lot of dances. Please don’t forget you will get to see them at dress rehearsal and there is a live feed in the dressing area so you can watch the show live!

Tips for a successful Recital

Bring a mini “recital oops kit” that contains:

Bobby pins, Extra hair net, Hair spray, Gel, Needle & thread, Safety pins, “tide to go stick” or something similar, Clear nail polish (for runs in tights), Make-up kit, Clear packing tape or scotch tape, Baby powder, Scissors, Deodorant/ body spray

Be respectful of others costumes and avoid colored drinks and messy snacks in the dressing area.
Bring quiet games (i.e. cards/puzzle/portable DVD players) to keep little ones entertained while they are waiting.
There are a lot of first time moms this year so if you have extra things or ideas, please help them out.
Come with hair and make-up done to save time
Make sure costumes are all set (no alterations/ not wrinkled) the night before
To get the wrinkles out of costumes DO NOT IRON. Hang in bathroom and steam with hot shower or use a steamer if you have one.
If child is complaining of the costume being itchy purchase an “undertard” or use baby powder to alleviate.
Network- Get some of the other mothers in your class’ phone numbers in case you have an issue
In between shows you have a few options. You can go to a restaurant for lunch, travel home and come back for second show, or you can pack a lunch and stay at the school for the break. The staff will be leaving but you are welcome to stay.
Do your best to adhere to all of the rules for a stress free experience.

Picture Week

If your child is not participating in Recital they do not need to come to class this week unless they wish to take a picture in their dance attire.
CASH ONLY SALE!!!! No exceptions! Price list on board in waiting room and included in packet
An outside photographer is hired to come in so if you have any questions please ask photographer day of. Because of this, I cannot accept money or credit cards for pictures or cash checks for you to purchase pictures.
Students will mostly come at their regular class times with hair and make up done as explained above. Slight adjustments have been made to the schedule. Picture schedule will be posted in waiting room and will be included in this packet. There will be no dancing just pictures.
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN PHOTO IF HAIR/MAKE UP/COSTUME OR ANYTHING ELSE IS NOT DONE PROPERLY. Please refer to rules above for clarification. NO EARRINGS ON PICTURE DAY!
